Leo J Saunders

Having gained an HND in Art and Design from Plymouth College of Art and Design in 1995, Leo has since combined painting and sculpting in a range of materials for commissions and as a development of his work with teaching, running artists’ studios / galleries and working as a draughtsman for architectural and engineering firms.

 

Originally from Plymouth, Leo moved his studio to Cornwall in 2002 in order to develop a new style of painting. He also took the opportunity to expand into sculptural work based on the recurrent themes which feature in his paintings, completing a sculpture course at Plymouth College of Art and Design in 2003. He is currently developing sculptures based on religion in an exciting collaboration with artist blacksmith Dominic Marcellus-Temple.

 

Working in acrylic and oils, incorporating gold, silver and bronze leaf into many of his works, he is always interested in exploring new methods and techniques, study forms an integral part of his artistic practise.

Leo has exhibited at a wide range of venues, New street gallery,Plymouth. Rock Institute, The Alley Gallery, Launceston, joint exhibitions with the Flameworks and Gwynngala groups and with renowned artist Robert Lenkiewicz and Christian Caramin at Plymouth City Museum and Art Gallery. He has works in collections in Liverpool, Zurich and Berlin.
